Cost for Data Recovery:

Data Recovery from a failed hard drive would not be performed by Apple. As for the price of a dead hard drive (read & write are both inoperable), it would be extremely expensive. Retailers do provide this service, and it is in the thousands in USD. This is because all of your data is stored in sectors, and it must be placed back to how it was. They shipped out to a lab for the data recovery.

Schedule an appointment at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider and get an estimate.

There is no published cost to repair the Hard Drive as there is with Battery or Screen replacement. The only guaranteed way would be to contact Apple again. It would be unusual for Apple to not provide the replacement cost when they diagnosed the problem previously. You may get many different numbers thrown out by other users, but the only one that matters is the one that you take your Mac to.

if your drive is replaceable (which depends on the model-year of your Mac) Apple may be able to exchange for a refurbished drive, but Apple does not recover your data.

If your drive is replaceable and you are handy, you can consider replacing the drive yourself.
