How to install Microsoft family on another MacBook Pro

I recently purchased Microsoft 365 for use on my older Macbook Pro. I would like to now download it onto my new Macbook Pro, but my online searches keep taking me to sites to purchase 365. The instructions to download it are woefully inadequate. I keep getting sidetracked to requirements that are either out of date or do not work. Can anyone help?

Hi,

Install Microsoft 365 on Another Device

To install Office on another PC or Mac, use the computer where you want to install Office and sign in to your Microsoft account. On the Office portal page, choose Install Office.

Guilty as charged, M'Lord :-) Here's my hijack, so that we can all pull together:

Like jacloregon, I'm trying to install Microsoft 365 on a MacBook Pro.
And, like jacloregon, I found, "The instructions to download it are woefully inadequate. I keep getting sidetracked to requirements that are either out of date or do not work."

LOL....OK, I think I'm back in sync now!

You said you've been attempting to join a Family subscription to MS 365, correct? And that the instructions for actually downloading/installing/registering the software don't work?

You also said your MacBook Pro is "fairly new"? Can you tell us exactly which Mac you have, and which MacOS you have running on this MacBook Pro? (This information is available by clicking on the Apple menu-->About This Mac. Please include the year of your Mac...or post a screenshot of the About This Mac window...blacking out the serial number of your Mac). All of this will let us know which MacOS your computer is capable of.

In my case, I haven't initiated the Family subscription: I'm simply having difficulty trying to join one.

When I posted earlier tofay, I had been experiencing that same as OP experienced: "The instructions to download it are woefully inadequate. I keep getting sidetracked to requirements that are either out of date or do not work."

For example, I was invited to Register my Device - which is both a red herring, and not actually possible in my case.

Eventually, I stumbled on a page where I could download the Microsoft 365 software to my fairly-new Macbook. But it turns out that Microsoft 365 won't run on it, because its macOS is unsupported by Microsoft.

So the best advice I've found since posting is to risk upgrading my macOS - and it is a risk, because doing that will disable some apps from other sources.

I will give that a try, but frankly my Family now look likely to cancel the 365 subscription as being more trouble than it's worth

(Last time I used Microsoft Office, I was able to do so for eleven years - the whole lifetime of that PC from initial delivery to finally catching fire.)

I did that, getting the error message ‘No purchases made with this account’ It's true, I've not made any purchases, but it's not helping me join my wife's Microsoft 365 Family subscription

Seeing your MS Purchases:

By default, it shows your purchases going back 3 months. So, change the time frame to go far enough back.

Thank you for trying to help - it's Microsoft at fault, not the Poster!

In your original post, you said you were trying to install MS 365 onto your new MacBook Pro. So I'm puzzled why you would have been told it's not compatible with your "elderly" MacBook's version of MacOS?
