Signing in to iMessage

I can sign into iMessage on my iPad mini 2, keeps giving the "can't connect to iMessage server" error

IMessage connection problem All at once my IPad I Message is asking me to sign in using my Apple ID and password. After entering this data it begins searching for a long time and comes back with an error message stating the server could not be connected. I have tried thre times. I cannot receive any IMessages. I have used this IPad for three years with no problems. Any ideas? Thanks
