speed vs. pace in Apple Fitness App
Dear all,
It's been several years now that Apple users ask how they can display their workout metrics in speed (mph or km/h) instead of pace (minutes per mile or minutes per km). For the same amount of years, Apple refuses to recognise that this might be how a large part of their users (and of the world) is used to quantifying things and would like to be able to read out their workout results.
So let's face it: Apple is not going to change anything anytime soon, because, since it would probably take one of Apples computer wizards like one minute to add this feature tot the Fitness app settings as a toggle, if they would, they'd have done it a long time ago. Apple continues, in all its wisdom, to decide what is best for us and so to impose this totally nonsensical (from a scientific point of view) unit upon its users. If and when the Apple car arrives, I'm sure they will have a "pace dial" which indicates that your car is driving at 1 minute per mile instead of 60 mph.
However, apart from the sarcasm and frustration in the above, I have also a real request to make, namely: can Apple community specialists please refrain from using condescending language disguised as politeness?
I quote from a reply to a question about the above:
I understand you're curious about displaying speed instead of pace for certain workouts, and I'd be glad to provide some information related to this.
In regards to what you're wanting to adjust, there isn't a way have speed as opposed to pace; however, the pace lets you know the amount of time taken for a certain distance, so your speed could be determined if you wanted that way. I hope this information is able to address your question.
Have Community Specialists been trained to "add insult to injury", I wonder? The person who asked this question is not "curious". It is completely normal to expect that Apple Fitness should be able to show speed as speed and not as pace. Many people do so and many apps provide it. We don't post messages on the discussions forum because we are curious (let alone we want to be confirmed or stimulated in our curiosity), we post them to get answers to our questions or to bring up issues that are important to us.
