Time Display

This is rather embarrassing but I need to ask it. Sometimes I wake up and don’t know what time it is and I’ll look at my smartphone and it will say , for example , 9:00.    Ok?  9:00 AMor 9:00 PM?  I then look around for context clues as to whether it is indeed 9:00 in the morning or if I somehow took a nap and then woke up and its evening.  My SMARTPHONE will not tell me the basic thing I want to know as to what time it is   I feel completely inept if I ask someone the time and they respond with “the time ?  Oh, its 8:35”.  8:35 WHAT?  8:35in the morning or 8:35 in the evening?  I want to know this NOW and I feel like I can’t ask a human without risking sounding like Rip Van Wrinkle and my smartphone will not give me an immediate one click answer!
