Using a 2017 iMac as a Secondary Monitor for a 2021 M1 MacBook Pro: Feasibility and Compatibility

Hello,

Can we use an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017, Mac OS Mojave) as a secondary monitor for

M1 MacbookPro (16-inch, 2021, Mac OS Ventura)?

I would appreciate a detailed answer with steps or alternative recommendations.

Best.

Not possible in the current configuration.

Neither device is supported for Target Display mode.

If the iMac can be updated to macOS Monterey or later, you can use Airplay to Mac, but know that there may be some lag, so not suitable for gaming or video editing where timing is crucial.

Best option: buy an actual monitor.
