Problem with locations in iOS 16.6

Updated to 16.6 late last night, and now I'm noticing that Apple Maps, google maps, and any app that uses location services while plugged into CarPlay is having some serious issues.

also, 3 times on 5 CarPlay isn’t working (no boot)

Both Apple and google maps will work at first, but both end up freezing at some point during navigation, and I have to hard reset my phone (with the buttons) to get any sort of location services working again.

When this happens, the location icon in Apple Maps is completely greyed out, and google maps is just unable to do anything. Neither can see my current correct location, and I'm unable to get new directions until I do a hard reboot.

I've also noticed that any apps which would normally use location services, also stop working entirely. Even the compass stops working. Weird as ****!

If I unplug the lightning cable and disconnect CarPlay, no problems at all.

looks like this isn't just limited to CarPlay. Just got home & turned Wi-Fi off. Apple Maps can't find me, google maps isn't working. Apps that reply on location like SpeedTest don't work, instagram can't find my location. Did a hard reboot, and it's working again...but only for a few minutes.

After three weeks of dealing with apple support on the phone, they finally set me up with a Genius Bar appt last night. The Genius bar manager confirmed that everything I already new and then the support guy told me to do exactly what is described above. He said they would not issue a new phone even under apple care if I did not do this as the issue is "a software problem." I informed him that it did not seem like the burden should be on the user to fix the software issue that was caused by 16.6 as recreating my 7th iPhone would take days and you lose all of your text history. I asked if the next software release could fix this and he said it probably would. So, I went home and downloaded the ios17 beta which, as of this morning, has resolved the issue.

Basically, if I force reset my phone and then don’t open Find My Friends then my location services works on all my other apps. As soon as I open Find My Friends it destroys location services for everything.

For those that don’t know how to force reset your handset, press volume down once, then immediately press volume up button once, and then hold in the side power button until screen goes off and then let go when you see white Apple logo.

Ben.

I also figured out Find My was causing this issue. I am able to get back by rebooting or using buttons to reset my iphone 12 pro. But then cannot open Find My or else issue returns. Ipad that I have does not have this issue, only iphone after latest update IOS 16.6.

Not sure if this is related to Carplay issues too. I also am having trouble connecting to Carplay. Have not tried yet since not using Find My. Hopefully new update will come soon.

Today had 2 calls with the senior team support. First call told me to remove the VPN app, reboot the phone. the Apple Maps works after that, but after 30 mins, the map location freeze. The second call advise me to "Reset Network Settings", reboot the phone. The maps work with location after fresh restart, but after 30 mins, location service gone again. at this time, I still have issue with the GPS location service on camera photo, all the map apps like apple map, google map, waze.... none of the methods works so far......... someone from Apple please raise this concern and have this resolved quick.
