My iPhone charges overnight but stops at around 50% even if it’s over 50%

So every night before I go to sleep, I charge my phone for the following day and I wake up to find out it barley charges at all and stops at around 50%, and weirdly enough even if it’s OVER 50% like tonight it was 70% and it like de-charges (if that’s even a word), and it went DOWN to around 50%.

The battery shows that it is charging and my does iPhone chime indicating that it does take the charge but when I wake up to check it does still show that it’s charging but it’s at 50. I really don’t know what’s going on, even looking at the battery charts confuse me because it shows that nothing is taking up that battery that’s supposed to be charged and my phone is off always during the night it just goes down and it also shows that it been charging.

Any help?

iPhone 12, iOS 16

Hello Rosom,

It sounds like you have issues charging your iPhone overnight. In this case, we'd recommend checking the following:

  1. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging to see the Battery Health Capacity: iPhone Battery and Performance If the capacity is it at 80% or lower, then you'd want to seek a battery replacement, since it has exceeded it's lifespan.
  2. Check if Optimized Battery Charging is enabled: About Optimized Battery Charging on your iPhone If so, you can disabled it and test if the issue continues to occur.
  3. Use these steps to look into the battery usage: About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch There are battery life tips provided here.

We would also recommend testing another charging cable, power adapter, and power outlet to rule out any power issues. If the issue persists, then it may be best to contact Apple Support: Get Support

They'd need to take it from here.

Take care.
