Hello Ineedhelp23_willapplehelp,
Depending on which model of Apple Pencil you own, follow the steps provided below:
For a 1st Generation Apple Pencil:
- Charge your Apple Pencil for at least 1.5 hours: Charge your Apple Pencil and check the battery - Apple Support
- Connect the Apple Pencil directly to the lightning port to make sure it’s recognized. You may need leave it connected for up to 45 minutes.
- See if it will pair now.
For a 2nd Generation Apple Pencil:
- Charge the iPad to at least 80%
- Attach the Pencil to the side of the iPad, and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes.
- If the option to attach the Pencil does not appear, remove the Pencil from the side of the iPad for 10 seconds before re-attaching it. Give the Pencil 30 seconds to give the pairing option.
- Remove the Pencil from the iPad, and restart your iPad.
- See if it will pair now.
If it still won’t pair, please apply these steps:
- Ensure the tip of the Pencil is screwed all the way in.
- If the Pencil shows as paired, remove it from the iPad and unpair the Pencil from the iPad in Settings > Bluetooth.
- Forget all other Bluetooth accessories that are paired/connected to the iPad in Settings > Bluetooth.
- Place all other Bluetooth devices in Airplane mode or turn them off. The goal is to reduce wireless interference as much as possible for testing.
- If using the iPad with any sort of case, including a Smart Keyboard, remove it and test.
- If the behavior persists, attach the Pencil magnetically to the iPad, then power cycle the iPad.
