I had made a back up for iOS 16 before I upgraded. I tried factory resting and going back to that back up to rid of my ios17 and that back up is gone. Is there anything else I can do to get back to iOS 16?

You can not downgrade from ios 17 to ios 16 at all.

Reset your device to Factory Settings. If you have a backup from iOS 17, you will be able to restore that data, otherwise you will have to set it up as a new device.
