Apple Pencil gen 2 SUDDENLY not connecting to my iPad Pro

So I am extremely disappointed to say that this is my SECOND gen 2 Apple Pencil that has done this. The first time, it was luckily still under factory warranty, but when they replaced it, the warranty did not start over. So I open my ipad today to do some important schoolwork and my Apple Pencil just won’t work. A small pop-up will appear at the top that says “Apple Pencil” but the pencil won’t actually connect or show the battery percentage. It also says it is disconnected in settings. I tried to restart my iPad. Didn’t work. I tried to forget the device (the Apple Pencil) and reconnect. Didn’t work. I am livid. I am currently waiting on my ipad to update but based on what I’ve read from people with the same experience, that won’t solve it either. This pencil is barely a year old and i have never dropped it a single time or caused any damage to it whatsoever. It is ALWAYS stored safely in my ipad case and I am just so upset about this. I want a replacement. How is apple going to charge $120 for a pencil that literally just stops working after a year?? twice!!!! What am I supposed to do. This is outrageous. I am a college student who is just trying to get my school work done and apple is just failing me out of nowhere for literally no reason. Insane.

Your Apple Pencil is exhibiting symptoms of a failed/failing battery - that will not reliably accept or hold any charge.

The tiny internal Li-ion battery is susceptible to permanent/irreversible damage through being left discharged for long periods. Even some “new” pencils can exhibit signs of failure out-of-the-box if they are “old stock”. It is essential that if you have an Apple Pencil that you charge it regularly - whether used or not - so as to protect the battery from deep-discharge. Do not allow a pencil to remain in low-charge state for any period of time - as the internal battery will fail, rendering the Pencil useless. Setting aside an unused Pencil, for extended periods, is a recipe for premature death of the Pencil battery.

It is generally recommended that a second generation Pencil is kept docked with the host iPad whenever the Pencil is not being actively used - as doing so will optimally maintain the Pencil’s battery charge and protect the battery from damage.

If the Pencil Battery has failed, the only remedy is to replace the Pencil. If the battery has failed and your pencil is within its one-year warranty, you should look to having it replaced by your retailer or at an Apple Store.

You would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad and Pencil. If a fault is identified, you’ll be in the best possible place to explore your available options:

Otherwise, this support page may be helpful with pairing and use of the Pencil with your iPad:
