Bose SoundDock Series III compatability via Lighting Connector - FIXED via new BOSE apps (not for this unit)
I have had a love-hate relationship with my Bose SoundDock Series III for the last few years. I love the sound quality but hate the fact that I can't use the lighting connector since probably 2015 when an update rendered the lighting connector only useful for charging. This meant that I couldn't play music using the dock without using an AUX cable (3.5mm) and this would mean I couldn't charge at the same time.
So eventually the dock would end up in a cupboard or drawer when I got frustrated with it. Today I had another crack at it, and finally, I found a solution inadvertently. I installed 3 Bose apps from the app store and I think somewhere in there was the patch needed for the lighting functionality to work properly. Now I get richer sound through the dock, have the remote functionality to control music too, and charge all at the same time!
So anyone who has been hating the loss of functionality can try just installing the BOSE apps designed to run the more modern Bluetooth apps and may have a chance to breathe new life into an old sound dock.
Hope this helps someone - all the threads on this died so reopening an old annoyance that has been put to bed (hopefully for good).
