Thank you for posting the image. It clearly says that the video is 30fps.

Here is what I think it is happening - the details may be off since I don’t have a gopro, but the general idea may be right - there are often separate settings for the capture and for the recording of video. It looks like your video was captured at 120fps but processed in-camera and saved at 30fps with the slomo “baked-in”.

Check the options in your camera. You will want a setting that captures and records at 120fps without any further in-camera processing, so that you have the original high frame rate video to work on in FCP.

That is a very relevant piece of information.

This points to some automatic translation that may occur when transferring.

For example, when transferring images or videos from an iPhone, there is a setting that can be changed, to bring the original file, or use some more "compatible" format: a HEVC video may be converted on the fly to H264, an HEIC image to JPEG.

I am thinking that something like that may be happening - namely a 120fps is being converted "under the hood" to a 30fps file with the slow motion baked in.

also: how do you transfer the files from the camera to your mac?

Do not use Photos to import the video clips.

Either import to FCP directly, or copy the actual files using the Finder.

Absolutely do not import the videos into Photos. Import the videos from the camera into FCP using the application’s Import window.

Could you post the full report from MediaInfo or Invisor? Use the Additional Text as the MediaInfo report can be quite long.

Has this been imported through Photos?

The file seems to be recorded at 30fps even of it’s shooting as 120.

What do you see in FCP when you play the file with the direct import? Does it play at full speed, or do you see slow motion? Does FCP say the file is 30 or 120?

Select the clip in the browser and look in the Info inspector. The i at the top of the inspector. At the bottom switch the menu to Extended for complete information.

Wow. That’s why you never let Photos touch your video or anything else you want to use in another application. It screws around with everything, trying to make it easy for the consumer in the application, but actually completely botching up files.

There is no reason to expect things to work differently in the paid version vs the trial.

Can you open one of these clips in MediaInfo and post a screenshot of what it says there?

Just a guess but it could be Photos' preferences. "Optimize Mac Storage" in Photo Settings > iCloud may be checked. Just a guess though.

Try importing it directly into FCP and then look at the Extended Info inspector to see the details.

I know it happens in iMovie and QuickTime. They're design to display high frame rate video as slomo because that's what it's used for. FCP should play this media properly at normal speed. Which trial version are you using? 10.6.7?

If it's in the GoPro player, it's possible it's function of the metadata in the media.
