Old GarageBand/New OS

Hello,

I have a 2017 iMac, 2.3 GHz, Intel Core i5. I am still using Mojave 10.14.6, and have been reluctant to upgrade to Ventura because I was told that Ventura will render my GarageBand 6.0.4 useless. I have created hundreds of song projects with that version. I also have GarageBand 10.3.5, but I strongly prefer the old version.

I am now experiencing regular bouts of sluggishness (spinning beachball, frozen screen, etc.). I have run Malware and it comes up clean. I am wondering a few things:

  1. Will upgrading to Ventura likely improve the sluggishness?
  2. Is it true that my 6.0.4 GarageBand will become useless?
  3. If it does become useless, will I still be able to open projects created with 6.0.4 in my version 10.3.5?

Thank you for any help.

  1. Possibly, or reverse
  2. Yes, unless you clone to an external drive so you can boot to the older OS when/if needed.
  3. Likely, but I've not tried it, nor can I.

We need to see what all is running & machine specs, a report from this will not display any personal info...

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...
