Photos gone that were in iCloud, how to recover?

Yes we knew apple photo streaming was going away. All the stuff I read about it said that if the photos were in iCloud from every device, those photos would be safe. Not true. Photos taken an an OLDER I-something which we upgraded to a NEW I-something are not there, and of course I no longer have the device that originally took the pics. Is there ANY way to recover those photos that Apple seemed to have provided bogus info about? There were many photos there that were irreplaceable & I am not happy about this.

Hi! It sounds like those photos weren't successfully backed up, so they weren't restored to your new iPhone. Because you no longer have the old device, it is not possible to recover these photos.

In the future, make sure that iCloud Photos is turned on in Settings > Photos. To ensure that your photos are being uploaded to iCloud before resetting your device, open Photos, tap Library and swipe up. Below your photos, it should show the status of your uploads and downloads.

Take care!
