Ipad. No option to disconnect or rename bluetooth devices

I have an iPad Pro 2nd Generation, just updated to 16.6

Bluetooth devices generally work ok, but when I click on the information icon next to the device name, I only get the option to Forget a Device, there is no option to either rename or disconnect.

The same happens whether it is an Apple device or a 3rd Party device.

This functionality existed in the past. Has it been deprecated or moved, or is there a problem with the device?

As described, your iPad’s Bluetooth functionality works exactly as expected.

The name of the paired Bluetooth device is derived from the device itself. For some Bluetooth devices, the displayed device name (as seen in iPad settings) might not be configurable. Unless the bluetooth device has the facility to change its name, which will reflect in the name that you see listed in iPad settings, you’ll not be able to change what see.

Similarly, available Bluetooth actions for many devices will be limited. Other than device details, which may only be visible when the associated Bluetooth device is both paired and active, other actions may be limited.

By example:

an Apple Pencil will only show Forget this Device.
Apple Airpods show additional items in Bluetooth settings - including the ability to change their displayed name.

In conclusion, precisely what you can see and control from iPad Bluetooth settings is entirely determined by the specific Bluetooth device.

Thanks for confirming, I had tried with multiple devices and didn't have the option on any of them. But it turns out that it was just bad luck - I connected my Apple Keyboard, that I don't typically use with it, and that did have the options to rename and disconnect.

That said, it's a pity that there isn't an option to at least change the displayed name of the devices. That could effectively just be an alias that doesn't affect the device at all, but is just for informational display purposes on the iPad. Certainly the same devices connected to an Android phone can be "renamed".

It's not a showstopper...some devices just have unhelpful names!
