I am unable to authorize a 5th apple device. Previously I had 5 devices but i deleted one yesterday. The system now reflects 4 devices authorized. but I still can not authorize the 5th device. Any thoughts?

Only computers need to be authorised to use iTunes Store. I suggest that you select deauthorise all option the authorise you existing computers using iTunes or the Music app.
