MacBook Pro M2 16 inch battery life

Hello Fellow MacBook Owners

recently bought a MacBook Pro M2 Pro 16 inch , and I am a bit surprised on the actual battery life, as this was actually my main decision factor.

I see in reviews and tests that everybody is astonished by 16-17+ hours of battery life, but honestly mine with absolutely low profile usage ( safari, outlook, and some chat apps) is barely making 8-9 hours, in addition to that the back of the display heats up surprisingly. I am MacBook owner since many many years and the last M1 Air did kind of the same job in terms of battery, with same usage.

When tested now I fully charged both M1 Air 13 inch and M2 Pro 16 inch, opened the same browser, website, and a few apps, and in the activity monitor in M1 Air shows 7 hours :47 mins , while the M2 Pro 16 shows 7 hours :23 mins remaining time.

With advertising 22 hours of straight streaming time, I 'd have expected at least two days of working without charging...which I clearly dont get. ( almost forgot yes, screen is dimmed 70%)

Any similar experiences?

Thanks and greetings

MacBook Pro (M2 Pro, 2023)

There are several things that can cause reduced runtimes. Did you install any anti-virus software? So-called "cleaning" apps? Both can shorten runtimes. Useless client-side VPNs are also suspect.

While certainly not useless, video-conferencing apps use a lot of resource, including battery power.

I've found some web pages, if left open int eh background, can reduce runtime of my older Macbook Pro by 40-50 percent. I can produce that at will by leaving the Amazon home page open. Activity Monitor is a built-in utility that helps see you resource usage including energy by app and process.

If you have concerns of any kind about a new Mac, by all means make an appointment and have Apple evaluate.
