I'm trying to add a new app-specific password, and every time I try I get a message saying "Continue on one of your devices" What am I supposed to do on another device?

I am unable to add or revoke app specific passwords. Every time I try I get a message saying "Continue on one of your devices" followed with "On an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch go to Settings > Apple ID. On a Mac go to System Preferences or System Settings > Apple ID." But it doesn't give any further instruction on what I'm supposed to do after going into Settings on another device. Anyone have any ideas?

So I ended up getting on the phone with Apple about this… turns out it was an issue with Safari. As soon as I tried to create a new app-specific password in Chrome, it worked perfectly. Pretty hilarious considering Apple’s own feature isn’t working in their browser 😂

Hi ethanslights,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities! To generate an app specific password, follow these steps:

  1. "Sign in to appleid.apple.com.
  2. In the Sign-In and Security section, select App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Select Generate an app-specific password or select the Add button Blue plus sign icon., then follow the steps on your screen.
  4. Enter or paste the app-specific password into the password field of the app."

Find this guidance in the article Sign in to apps with your Apple ID using app-specific passwords.

Hope that helps!

Yup, this doesn’t help, I’m having the same issue, stuck in a circular loop with the “continue on your device” message. If I click Revoke enough times (or Add) on iCloud.com, it will eventually give me a general error, with no detailed explanation. This should probably be fixed, no? (Currently on iOS 17.0 (21A5303d) - iPhone 14 Pro Max)
