Thunderbolt cables

I have an Apple Thunderbolt Display that I am going to replace in the new year, it connects to my Mac Mini (Late 2014)

The thunderbolt cable that is going into the mini Mac has been repaired and the display works intermittently.

Would a thunderbolt cable from display to mini Mac , would I be able to see display, and if yes what cable would I need? Version 1?

Thank you for any help

Mac mini, macOS 12.6

The Thunderbolt port on the back of the display can be used to connect the display to the computer. Use a Thunderbolt cable:

Apple Thunderbolt Cable (0.5 m) - White - Apple

You can choose 0.5 or 2 meter length.

Thunderbolt is bi-directional. There are no distinct input or output ports.

Not sure what you are asking.

The input Thunderbolt cable from the display, is built into it.

The other ports on the display are output ports only for connecting other devices. They won't allow you to connect the Mac mini to the display.

You would need to replace the actual input thunderbolt cable which would require a replacement cable and disassembling the display to get get to the connections.

Thunderbolt is bi-directional. Thunderbolt is a bi-directional multiport bus. Ideally each device has two Thunderbolt ports so you can connect multiple devices in a chain. Devices with only one Thunderbolt port have to be at an end, so there can't be more than two of them on a chain. Any device can communicate with any other device in the chain. None of the ports are distinctly input or output.
