Roxio's - Toast 20 Problem requires a missing CODEC????? Anyone know how to fix this??

I checked the Discussion boards for Roxio & Corel, which I believe are the makers of the Toast program. I have an M1 Mac Mini and using Ventura 13.5. The Roxio support page said if a video format can play in Quicktime then it should have no problem working with the latest Toast version 20. I tried to drag a MKV video into the program and it was rejected as an "Unsupported Format." So I used Wondershare's UniConvertor program to change it to and AVI file. Still the same problem. I ten tested to see if the AVI would play in Quicktime and it would not. After talking with Apple they said it's a Gray area that they can't support because as long as Quicktime runs everything they need it to run according to their OS needs, then that is as far as it goes. A Codec would be an Add On software that recodes the video file so it runs on the programs you use.

I use VLC as my main video Player as it is the Best in Everything! On the Roxio Support pages the only thing I could find is they said I need a CODEC and they mentioned a name from the past "PERIAN". I checked Apple APP store and no luck. Still searching around. Not sure where to look next.

Anyone know how to get Toast 20 to work??

Thanks!

MKV or AVI is not a useful format for QuickTime 10, and therefore not useful for Toast.

Instead convert to .mp4 with H.264 AVC video and AAC (or AC-3) audio. I would suggest HandBrake for any conversion needs. But if your converter program of choice can make QuickTime compatible files, then that is fine too.

On the Roxio Support pages the only thing I could find is they said I need a CODEC and they mentioned a name from the past "PERIAN".

Perian was a quite powerful plugin for QuickTime 7 (adding support for codecs and formats that were popular in the 2000s on the other platform, but also useful for Toast in a different way: support for overlaying external subtitles). It is not compatible with QuickTime 10, and not with M1 Macs. Perian was discontinued in 2012 (very long ago!). It couldn’t work the same way for QuickTime 10, and H.264/AAC .mp4 was becoming the new popular format (in part because of iOS/iPhone).

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I suspected that about Perian. I still have it in some of my iMACs from that exact period!! I will try that Conversion in Wondershare and I DO have HANDBRAKE as well!!! I was just going to start trying random format versions thinking ONE has to work!!

And since I still have Perian in my OLD Macs I figured no way would it work in these modern Macs, let alone the New M1 Chip!!

I will let you know how I make out. Handbrake confuses the heck out of me so I will see what happens!!

Thanks again!!!
