using NOT in spotlight searches

Using Finder/ Spotlight in 12.6.7.

I want to find files that are not PDF. And in general, wondering if NOT operators work anywhere in spotlight searches?

AND, OR, and NOT are valid Spotlight operators. For instance, in Spotlight 🔍 from the Menu Extras bar, or a Finder Window search field:

NOT kind:pdf

This is fine if you have a mixed folder of PDFs and other files as it will suppress showing PDFs. But if there is a sub-folder in the same location with just PDFs in it, when you open that sub-folder, you will see PDF files in it. So recursion is not in play.

Filemaker does not embed its name in a .fmp12 database, at least not in plain text so asking Spotlight to find the content creator will fail on a filename with this extension. Tried it and it ignores content creator. The kind is document, not Claris, or Filemaker either.

Your best bet is just looking for any file whose extension is .fmp12. That eliminates all other document categories and particularly anything else Filemaker would write.
