A late 2014 iMac can be updated to Big Sur 11.7.9 which was released on July 24, 2023. See: About the security content of macOS Big Sur 11.7.9 - Apple Support

How do I backup my iPhone 6s Plus on my MacBook Pro? I am unable to backup my iPhone 6s Plus running iOS 15.5 on my MacBook Pro.which runs MacOS 11.6.6. I downloaded the software update mentioned in the apple support article - HT208831. I now get the message "... not enough free space is available on this Mac". This is incorrect, since I have about 443 GB on my Mac, and the iPhone is 128 GB. I did not have any problem with backups, till I upgraded to Big Sur. Is there a workaround? Thank you.

iPhone backups to Mac are so slow! Why do backups from such a technologically advanced device to such an advanced laptop take soooooo long? It’s been 6 hours to backup a 256GB iPhone 11 Pro so we can restore and cutover to an iPhone 16 Pro. There really is no excuse for this kind of poor performance from these products. How does Apple get away with this? And I refuse to pay the iCloud fees to store all data for a family of 5 as backups so we can upgrade phones and move our data.
