Is anyone else having problems with apple's music app saving the changes to the library. Either recently loaded files aren't there or they need to be located on the drive they were originally saved to. Recently I lost everything added in 2023.

I'm not doing anything special. The app just isn't saving my changes consistently.

MacBook Pro 15″, OS X 10.11

Hello leano59,

Thanks for that info. Check if it's in a different library. Switch libraries with the Apple Music app in macOS - Apple Support

"How to switch iTunes libraries

  1. Press and hold the Option key, then open the Apple Music app.
  2. In the window that appears, click Choose Library.
  3. Select the iTunes library that you want to switch to.
  4. Click Choose."

You can also see if you are or are not consolidating your library, and saving to the correct place. This article gives all options, but the easiest is to ensure the save location is correct, then choose to have the library consolidate automatically: Change where your music files are stored on Mac - Apple Support

Thanks.

In October of last year I had to replace my mid 2014 MacBook Pro with a late 2021 MacBook Pro with the Apple M1 Pro chip. This meant moving from the iTunes app to the new Music app. I add most of my music from my download folder to the Music app and it's saved to an external hard drive. Everything I add is always saved to the hard drive so access to the music is never a problem. Recently, when I opened the Music app, everything I had added since using the Music app was gone. All the music, all the playlists i created. The newest music & playlist in my library was from October of 2022 when I was using iTunes. I tried to start fresh with a new library, reloading everything on my external drive, but when I shut down the Music app, the library is blank, no files when I reopen the app. This is new as of this past week. I've had missing files before, but never the entire library.
