WHEN I CLICK ON "SYSTEMS SETTINGS" THEN "GENERAL" AND "TIME MACHINE, I GET ONLY A WINDOW ASKING "ADD BACKUP DISK" (WHICH I'M NOT INSTALLING). CLICKING ON 'ADD BACKUP DISK" OPENS ANOTHER WINDOW, "NO AVAILABLE TIME MACHINE DESTINATIONS"

No. Since there is only one internal drive, Time Machine has nothing to back up to if you don't connect an external drive.
Of course, you could partition the internal drive and set Time Machine to back up to a different partition, but that would arguably be monumentally stupid since if the drive fails, your backup is also gone.

I'm not KiltedTim, but no. Time Machine needs an external drive to backup to.
Time Machine backs up to an external USB drive that is connected to your Mac.
If you don't have an external drive to use for Time Machine backups, your Mac cannot back up.
OK... You need to connect a drive for Time Machine to use for backups.
