my airpods wont charge unless the case is plugged in even if the case has a 100% charge
My Airpods will not charge unless the cases itself is plugged in even though the cases has a 100% charge

The first action to take with charging concerns is to ensure there is no debris that could be interfering with the connections. Use the steps in How to clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and EarPods to ensure both the charging port and where the AirPods are inserted are clean and free of foreign material.
You may also be able to reset the AirPods using the steps in How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro which states "You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue."
Finally, from the article that you originally posted from is the following:
"Check the charge status
If you have AirPods or AirPods Pro, open the case lid with your AirPods inside and hold your case close to your iOS device. If you have AirPods Max, open the Smart Case and hold your case close to your iOS device. You should see a charging icon next to the battery icon under your AirPods.
If you still can’t charge your AirPods, contact Apple Support."
