How do I backup my Macbook Air to iCloud?

I need to replace my MacBook Air and want to be able to restore the new one from the iCloud backup. How do I get my current device to do a complete backup to iCloud?

Macs do not backup to iCloud. You’ll want to make a Time Machine backup.
