Add a photo's file name to the actual photo?

I have a bunch (100's) of photos that I want to use in a slide show. I'd like to have each photo's file name (e.g., "Sarah with her dog") added to the bottom of the photo so the viewer will know what they are looking at.

Is there some automated way of doing this? The app I use the most is Photoshop Elements, but am happy to use whatever works.

Thanks in advance.

You can do it with the Photos slideshow. See this animated screenshot:

The file name stays on the slide for about 2 ½ seconds out of the time the slide is on screen. And the text stays on the slide when exported.

GraphicConverter ($40) has settings to let you display the file name with a slide show-- it's not large, though you may be able to adjust that. It also has lots of batch operations that might let you do other things you want, as well. You can copy metadata between fields, which might let you do something like a title rather than the file name.
