Hello ee2ndo,
Presumably you are trying to add a Gmail account to Mail on your Mac. Google has tightened its security and older operating systems such as OS X 10.11 are no longer compatible. Yet, there is a way to connect your Gmail account on your Mac.
First, you'll need to create an application specific password: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en.
Then, if you are adding the Gmail account in Mail on your Mac, choose "Other" and not "Google". Fill in your e-mail address and the application specific password.

Please provide some details and context. One reason for that error would be:
"400 invalid_request” or “Access blocked: App sent an invalid request,” it means the app uses an authorization method that Google doesn't allow." But without specific details and context we do not know why you are getting this error.
Error 400: invalid_request
