Your iPhone's "charger" is actually built into the phone itself, and you would use a power adapter to provide it with current. That charger is "smart." In that, it will not allow the phone to accept more current than is required to charge the phone. Apple does not restrict which brand of power adapter you use, but of course, would recommend theirs.

The key is: If you decide to use a non-Apple power adapter, be sure to get it from a reputable manufacturer. There are many cheap knockoff adapters that use shoddy electrical components that you should avoid.
