I created a password for my Mac's system myself, but I forgot it, and I don't know how to recover it because I didn't write it down. I can log in on the initial screen and use the computer without issues, except when I want to install something like a printer. Then I can't proceed because the following message appears: "Setup is trying to install a new helper tool. Enter your password to allow this." What can I do to recover this password? Thank you.

Troubleshooting a Locked Mac Account:

A. Use your User Password -If an Admin:

B. Reset the Password Using the Login Screen:

You'd go through your Apple ID to perform this. Find out more here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support. Make sure that caps lock is not enabled when typing it. No Success? Go here: If you can't Reset your Mac Login Password - Apple Support
