How to scan files for malware

I read that many files can have embedded code:

*documents (.doc, .docx for example),

*graphics files (.jpg, .tiff, .png for example).

I think that was referring to files on a Microsoft Windows.

I have 25,000 files in my cloud drives: iCloud, OneDrive, GoogleDrive.

Some of them are redundant, for backups of backups.

I stored some .mp3 files in iCloud in the last year.

I recorded them using an iOS app.

All the files used to play. But now some don’t play.

I wonder if they’re corrupt, possibly with malware.

Is there a way to scan files before trying to open them?

I used to do that with Windows Defender.

(I left Windows years ago after a hacker destroyed

my Surface Pro.)

I use an iPhone SE (2020) and an iPad Pro 12.9 (Gen4).

iOS is up-to-date on both devices.

I bought a year of Norton 360 anti virus.

They said “iOS doesn’t need anti-virus protection”,

but what if one of these files has malicious code?

Does iOS (like MS Windows) execute code in these files?

For now, I’m continuing to use Norton, because I set up a VPN and

also installed their Identity Theft software. I don’t trust it’s working

to protect me.

I’d like to know if iOS auto-runs code in any file.

Obviously it would need to be iOS-compatible code,

but that could be written in Java, JavaScript, Swift,

C++, Xcode, etc. (and compiled properly).

I’m having to learn way more than I ever wanted to know

about malware. But I’ll bet I’m not the only one

wondering about how to fortify myself against all hackers.

Thanks!

iPhone SE, iOS 16

iOS includes built-in malware detection and removal tools, as well as a hardened environment, and the apps are scanned vis the app store, and problem apps can be remotely disabled.

So far, there has been very little malware, outside of targeted attacks, targeting iOS. What little there has been gets extensive coverage, too.
