Hello Cassjz,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about issues with your iPad.

Since the force restart solves this, it doesn't sound like a hardware issue. You will need to isolate this more, but before that, let's reinstall the iPadOS.

Make sure all your info is synced with iCloud too, cause anything not fully there won’t restore. Log in on a different computer, iCloud.com. If your contacts, calendars, photos, all documents are in iCloud properly, then go ahead and get a fresh backup. You can make a backup in iCloud or Finder/iTunes using this article: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

After your data is backed up, you can reinstall iPadOS using your computer. The reason we need to use the computer for this step is to get a new copy of iPadOS installed to your device. Use this article to reinstall the iOS: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Please pay close attention when you reach step 4. Once iPadOS is reinstalled, test if the issue is still occurring. If it is, check if you have anything plugged in to the iPad when it occurred. Remove those items, and test again. Also, check what app you were in, as apps can also cause this. If it occurs, force restart, and do not open that same app. See if it occurs again.

Thanks.
