I see books on my iMac Books app, but they do not show up in my iPad sync window

I have a new iPad. I have multiple books in the Books app on my iMac. I plug my iPad into the iMac, and I see my iPad in the Finder. Click on that, and go to the "Books" section, where I would expect to see my books so I could sync... but there is nothing there. Don't know what I'm doing wrong...
