I'm trying to cut a movie into smaller bits. I figured out how to crop it, but I need to know how large the file is. Then I have to export it. Help?

I am an Etsy store owner. I'm trying to upload a movie of my product on Etsy, but it can't be more than 100mb. I thought I might submit two movies instead of one, so I cropped the movie and now I have the first half of the movie. Now I need to figure out how to upload that half, then I have to create a movie for the second half. However, I first need to know how big the first movie is so that I can attempt this. Then I have to export it and import it to Etsy.

Hi,

One cannot export a segment from an iMovie project. You would need to export the whole project.

To accomplish exporting a segment, select the segment and do Edit/Copy. Then close the project and create a new project. Open the new project, click in the timeline, and do an Edit/Paste. That will copy into the timeline the segment that will constitute the whole project. Then you can export the whole new project.

When you export as a movie File on your desktop, the export box that pops up will show an image, and right below the image will appear the estimated file size of the exported product.

It is only an estimated file size, and may not be precisely accurate. Also, the file size may not reflect the file size of the original clip, because iMovie may export it with more or less compression. Also, the file size depends on the export settings that you choose. Higher compression, lower quality, lower resolution = smaller file size. Whereas the opposite settings would create a larger file size. As you change these settings the estimated file size below the image will change accordingly.
