Siri has gone deaf

My Siri stopped responding. Followed instructions to reset, but when I try saying "Hey Siri," in the setup I get "She didn't quite get that. Try again."

Hello ArthurLL,

If Siri is unable to hear your requests, then you'll want to make sure all of the microphones are currently working properly on the device.

You can use these steps to test each of the microphones on the device:

  1. Main bottom mic - Go into the Voice Memos application and make a quick recording. Play it back and see if it was able to capture your audio.
  2. Front mic - Go into the Camera app, switch to the front facing camera and Video mode and record a quick video. Play it back and see if it was able to capture your audio.
  3. Rear Mic - Go into the Camera app, switch to the rear facing camera and Video mode and record a quick video. Play it back and see if it was able to capture your audio.

If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working

If any of the microphones are unable to capture your audio, then you'll need to have the device serviced. You can find available service options for iPhone here: iPhone Repair & Service

If all of the microphones were able to capture your audio properly, then you'll want to make sure you've covered the basics like restarting the device and making sure it's up to date.

Hey ArthurLL,

The steps below may help with the issue you're experiencing with "Hey Siri". The steps make sure "Hey Siri" responds even if the iPhone is in Silent mode.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Siri & Search.
3. Tap Siri Responses.
4. Tap Prefer Spoken Responses to hear Siri speak responses, even when Silent mode is turned on.

For future reference the steps are located in this article: If "Hey Siri" isn't working on your iPhone.

Take care.
