iPhone Notifications quiet or silent, but alarm still loud

Hi,

I have an iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 16.6. The phone is new to me - purchased through Apple Store.

My phone is not set to any focus and the silent toggle is set to ‘noise’ - it’s not showing the orange dash.

in setting, I have disabled the buttons from affecting the ringer and alerts and I have the volume slider for ringer and alters about a third of the way up. I've also turned off Attention Aware (which is a shame, the dining screen thing is useful)

so if I get a call, text, diary alert or an alarm goes off, I should hear it.

the problem is that while I’ve not had any issue with the alarm, all other alerts can be silent or very quiet. It’s driving me nuts.

it’s hard to work out exactly what going on as the behaviour isn’t consistent, but it seems like if I’ve recently used the phone - even if the last thing I did was press the button the turn the screen off and put the phone down - it won’t give me alerts. But if it’s been a while, it’ll make a noise.

I’ve rebooted the phone and readjusted the alert volumes. Seems nothing fixes it.

Has anyone found this and more importantly, has anyone found a solution!

Thanks

Jason

Do Not Disturb and the Ring/Silent switch don’t affect the alarm sound. If you set your Ring/Silent switch to Silent or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm will still sound.

If your alarm doesn’t sound or is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Set the volume on your iPhone. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume up or volume down button to adjust it. You can also go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and drag the slider under Ringtone and Alert Volume.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure your alarm sound isn’t set to None. Open the Clock app, tap the Alarm tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect headphones to your iPhone, the alarm will play at a set volume through the built-in speakers on your iPhone as well as wired and wireless headphones.

Thanks for reaching out SravanKrA,

with the way the phone is set up - not silent and alerts set to a third of the way along the volume slider - there should be noise when I get a text. However, it’s often silent. I’ve had several messages today and only one made a ping noise.

all of todays messages have been from the same person and through the same messaging service. I haven’t changed any settings, other than disabling the Attention Aware. So my phone has been in a constant state, but the response - alerts - are erratic.
