Intermittingly not receiving calls

The iPhone 14 pro max has been replaced once because of this issue. Here's the issue...the phone will intermittingly not receive calls but will send them to v-mail. I am not sure if texts are affected. This issue occurs on Wi-Fi calling and on direct carrier 5g calling. Carrier software is up to date. This problem does not have any set pattern. When I discover that i had received a call I have tested the issue by calling the phone from the house to see if does connect and it won't but will show connect to v-mail but does not show up in my recent call list on the phone. I will also try to call a number and the call will fail. Now after that testing if I toggle the phone's airplane on then off everything works fine until the next time. This can occur a couple times in a day or or not for a couple days. I just never know when it happens and it doesn't happen out of any extraordinary situation. I am a very basic phone user. I have not set up anything in FOCUS either.

Experiencing issues with receiving calls intermittently on your iPhone can be frustrating, but there could be various reasons for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to address the issue:

  1. Make sure you have a strong cellular signal. Poor connectivity can lead to missed calls.
  2. Ensure that you haven't accidentally turned on "Do Not Disturb" mode, which could prevent calls from coming through. This mode silences calls and notifications. You can find it in the Control Center or in the Settings app.
  3. Make sure you're not in Airplane mode, as this disables cellular and Wi-Fi connections.
  4. Verify that you haven't set up call forwarding to another number. This could potentially route your incoming calls elsewhere.
  5. If the problem persists, Reset Network Settings: Only network settings are removed.
    1. When you reset network settings, previously used networks and VPN settings that weren’t installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM) are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks settings remain turned on.
    2. To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the configuration profile, then tap Remove Profile. This also removes other settings and accounts provided by the profile. See Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone in this guide.
    3. To remove network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the management, then tap Remove Management. This also removes other settings and certificates provided by MDM. See “Mobile device management (MDM)” in the iOS Deployment Reference.
    4. Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.
  6. Check if you have accidentally blocked the contact or contacts that are trying to call you. Go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.
  7. Carrier settings updates can also impact your phone's connectivity. Go to Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll be prompted to install it.
  8. At times, the issue might be related to your carrier. Contact their customer support to check if there are any network-related problems.
  9. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
    1. Restart the device. That's it.
    2. Still not solved --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
  10. If the issue persists, you can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your data but will reset all personalized settings to their default values. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset All Settings and confirm the action. Note that you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward. All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.
    1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
    2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
    3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.
  11. Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
    1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
    2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

Contact Apple Support: If the problem persists, it might be a more complex issue that requires assistance from Apple's support team. You can reach out to them for further troubleshooting.

Check your iPhone settings

Go to Settings and turn on Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn it off. Check Do Not Disturb. Go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and make sure it's turned off. Check for any blocked phone numbers.

I take issue with your "solutions" that have been tried and found not to correct the problem by myself or Apple Support, thus the reason I was sent a replacement device by Apple. Turning on and then off "Airplane Mode" does temporarily correct the problem. The main issue is that I never really know when the issue occurs until when I either have a call that "fails" or I check my v-mail. The issue occurred with new iPhone after 8 days of operation and thus the reason I posted. Apple says it's a carrier issue and the carrier has pleasantly supplied a new eSim, which the old eSim was deleted and the iPhone restarted prior to installing the new eSim. The issue happened again after I complied with Apple by having the carrier provide a new eSim. As I told Apple it appears to be occurring after I have made a drive. Hasn't occurred every time but intermittingly. I was just lucky, actually unfortunate, that it occurred after I was provided a new eSim and had to drive to the store. My question back to Apple was, if Focus is not set up and the Do Not Disturb is not setup and the "While Driving" was deleted is their a possibility that there is a glitch in hardware to software connection of the Do Not Disturb function operating even though it is deleted? I asked how does that function work when used, meaning how does it know you're "driving" to silence or send calls to v-mail. I was told it is based on movement and speed of the phone as it keeps calculating it geo sync position. Apple still insisted there was no issue with the device since if they sent me a new device and it was still happening it had to be a carrier issue. I reply to them that no it doesn't mean it's not a device issue if there is an inherent issue with a hardware/software issue that they haven't pin pointed.
