Using Screen Time to dis-allow Account Changes eventually keeps Safari from loading pages

I’ve been using Screen Time as a security method to dis-allow changes to my Apple account, to protect my iPhone from being grabbed while open. This just means an additional password is required to make change. All good until suddenly Safari can’t open any web page. Turning this Screen Time setting off solves the problem, but… is this just the often mentioned buggy nature of Screen Time? Does not coincide with a new iOS update—been running the up-to-date 16.6 for a while now. What gives?

Hello rjd_sf,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your web content is not loading. We're happy to help.

You may have parental controls set too strict for allowed web content. Is it marked at "unrestricted" or if enabled, are allowed websites listed?

1. Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
2. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions and enter your Screen Time passcode.
3. Tap Content Restrictions, then tap Web Content.
4. Choose Unrestricted Access, Limit Adult Websites, or Allowed Websites.

See "Prevent web content" here: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

That should help. Let us know if you have any questions.

Take care.

To be clearer, I’ve found that after about two weeks toggling off Allow Account Changes under Screen Time causes Safari to stop recognizing any and all security certificates, and thus will not any web page to load. I can immediately stop and start this Safari effect by turning on and off Allow Account Changes. I guess the best answer here is going to be my own: “it’s a bug, don’t use Screen Time under iOS 16.6 for additional security on your iPhone.”
