Macbook does not wake up unless connected to power

As the title suggests. It doesn't matter whether my MacBook is at 20% or 100% charge, it won't wake up when I lift up the screen. The touchpad is unresponsive and if I press the power button a "no battery" symbol flashes on the screen. When I plug in the power cable, it wakes up, and will have plenty of battery.

Additional info is that I had the battery changed recently. Likely it has something to do with that, but before taking it back would like to try what I can at home.

I tried resetting SMC, and that didn't work.

Any help appreciated!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
