How do I tell which model of apple pen I have

I have an apple pen and don’t know what model I have. I don’t see a part to plug in the charge, just a point with a little disc on it that makes contact with the screen.

New Apple pen gen 2, will not connect or charge. Since losing my old Apple prn (gen 2) on my summer holiday i finally got around to purchase a new one (apple pen gen 2) this week, to be ready to start my new semester my iPad was running on iOS 17, so I thought it was time for an update since I got my new apple pen. I tried pairing it with my iPad (11” pro gen 2) after I updated it, and it shows it’s connected when the pen is attached to the iPad but I doesn’t charge, and as soon as I remove the pen it’s disconnecting. I did try all the suggestions google had, disconnect Bluetooth, force restart. what should I do?

Look at the pictures in the support document you posted from and compare them to your own pencil.

If it has a flat side that says Pencil, its a Second Generation Apple Pencil.

If it is completely cylindrical and has a silver ring at the top with a cap that can be removed, it's a First Generation Apple Pencil.
