Hello
Over the years, I have stored all manner of files in my Apple iCloud.
Is there a 'simple' way to transfer all such data back onto my computer's hard drive?
I have an iMac, running macOS Ventura 13.5, with almost 2 TB of free space right now.
My photos are already accessible, as are my Notes.
How would you deal with such a task?

While how you store your data depends a lot on personal preferences, it also depends on the type of data you're storing. What may be more helpful is some tips on how to Search with Spotlight on Mac.

Are you aware of any similar material which describes how best to store information an Apple computer so that it may more easily be found? Perhaps a bit like a filing cabinet! Any ideas will be much appreciated.

You can create folders as you wish. As for data in iCloud the easiest is to sync iCloud Drive to your Mac. System settings > Apple ID > iCloud. Enable iCloud Drive
