My sons laptop appears to have an issue with search-alpha or search Marquis malware.

ive managed to remove the extensions from safari and changed default home screen so it’s not auto routing anymore however I think the background system files are still there.

Can you help me identify the erroneous files?

The short answer is that most of those files need to be deleted, but I need screenshots — not photos.

For comprehensive instructions please read Removing "Search Marquis" / "Search Baron" / etc on your own - Apple Community. Post the three screenshots it describes in a reply to this Discussion. When doing so, please expand the window to include date information, since that will help identify older, yet legitimate software you may require from the rest.

Until then, start your Mac in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support. While in that mode, drag all the files in each of those folders to the Trash, except for the ones whose names contain those of legitimate software products that you are familiar with and are certain you require. Those are as follows:

Epic (gaming software)

Google

Microsoft

Oracle

Steam (games)

Valve (games)

Everything else needs to go. If you have questions or need additional help by all means write back.

Back up your Mac prior to making any changes to its file system. To learn how to use Time Machine please read Back up your files with Time Machine on Mac - Apple Support.
