No audio from iMovie

I just got a the new M2 Mac Studio and decided to test it out with some quick video editing/exporting stuff but for some reason, i get no audio from it. I get audio from everything else, but iMovie says no.

I use a USB mixer, as i am a musician, so that is my "interface", but like i said, using Logic, Youtube, Quicktime etc etc they all get audio.

Ive looked everywhere inside of iMovie itself for some sort of audio settings, but i cant even find anything.

Anyone got a solution?

Davinci Resolve has received some good reviews.

However, don't give up yet. There is something about the format or the rendering of the clips that iMovie does not like. iMovie likes Mp4/AAC. I have found that sound issues are often cured by running the clips through the free download Handbrake, thus re-encoding the clip. Handbrake will render it as Mp4/AAC by default. Do that even if the clip is already indicated to be Mp4/AAC.

You can get Handbrake here:

https://handbrake.fr/

A simple way to do it is to open Handbrake and do a File/Open Source. Navigate to your video and choose it as the source from the resulting screen. Then do File/Start Encoding. Wait a couple of minutes for the conversion to

complete. Then save and import the converted clip into iMovie.

Hi,

First thing is to confirm that the sound has not been muted in iMovie. Select a clip with audio in it and then click on the loudspeaker icon in the toolbar at the upper right of the screen. Controls will appear. Make sure that the "Mute Audio" button (that also looks like a loudspeaker) has not been selected. The words "Mute Audio" will appear when you move your cursor over the loudspeaker button.

If the above is not the situation, then try resetting/deleting preferences, as sometimes with a new device or an upgrade preferences can go awry and cause iMovie to function improperly. To reset/delete preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you have sound in iMovie. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

Another thing that you can try is to create a new project and see if your clips will play with sound there. Often glitches develop in one particular project that do not appear in others.
