1.48 GB. Software downloads then won't install. Any suggestions?

Do you have any third-party AV-ware, Clean-ware, Maintenance-ware or a VPN installed on that iMac?
If so, un-install those as per the developers instruction, restart in Safe Mode and try to update.

Try restarting..If that doesn't help, try installing the update in Safe Mode.
