My iPhone won’t backup my data and I need the updates to do so but I’m all the way back in 12.5.7 I need to be in 15.8.2 or something like that idk how to when I just updated it but I’m still in 12

An unit running 12.5.7 isn't an iPhone 6s or capable of 13 or above, either from the unit itself or a computer. This won't itself prevent you from backing it up; describe what happens when you try.
