iOS 16.6 causing charging issues

Hi since downloading iOS 16.6 my iPhone 8 will no longer charge past 80% I appreciate the battery is old but this was not a problem until this update. I have tried removing the case, cleaning lightning connector stopping all background app activities etc but nothing is taking it past 80%

Updating iOS on your iPhone should typically not alter the fundamental functionality of the device. It's possible that there were underlying issues before this update, which you might not have been aware of previously or might not have noticed.

In general, iOS updates are designed to enhance the user experience, improve security, and fix bugs, rather than introducing major disruptions to core features. The reported issue of the screen flickering and displaying a white screen after an update is likely caused by factors that are not explicitly mentioned in your post.

iOS updates primarily focus on improving system performance, introducing new features, fixing bugs, and enhancing security. They are designed to preserve your personal data, settings, and information intact.

During an iOS update, your device's operating system is upgraded, but your personal data, such as contacts, photos, messages, and other information, should remain unchanged. However, it's always a good practice to perform a backup of your device before any major update to ensure that your data is safely stored.

It's important to note that while an iOS update itself should not alter personal details, it's possible that certain features or settings may be adjusted or improved with the update. In such cases, you may need to review and adjust specific settings to match your preferences after the update.

Always make sure to read and understand the update details provided by Apple before proceeding with an iOS update, and follow best practices such as backing up your device to minimize any potential risks or complications.

If the issues you mentioned are indeed caused by iOS, it's likely that numerous users who have upgraded to iOS 16.6 are experiencing similar problems. However, in order for the community on this forum to provide helpful responses, it would be beneficial for you to specify the nature of the issue you are encountering. Without this information, it may be difficult for others to address your concern effectively.

With the limited information that you have provided, It is hard to even guess the problems faced by you.

With iOS 13 and later, Optimised Battery Charging is designed to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations. Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that Optimised Battery Charging will only activate when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time. The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged.

i am having the same issue with iPhone 13 before this update it was charging normally and now even with my macbook charger which is 96 watt is charging slowly (around one or 2 hours) , the issue is not related to the cables or to the charger , it is a bug from this IOS update which needs to be checked and fixed , it is super annoying that there is a release to production with such a bug.

my iphone is new and battery is above 95% , i will downgrade to an unsigned version until apple release a fix , this is annoying.

I also am having charging issues on my iphone 14 promax after updated to iOS 16.6. One my phone it won't charge at all with the lightning cable, and after unplugging and plugging in I'm occasionally getting a "Liquid Detected in Lightning Port" even though the phone remained plugged into the same port prior to and during the install and was charging just fine. I've tried restarting, using different cables, but the issue is still there.

I do not think this is an issue with the charger, the charging cord, or whether the port is clean. My husband and I both upgraded to iOS 16.6 and both of our phones intermittently charge now. It will appear to charge for a few seconds then turn off. We use two different outlets with two different brands of chargers/cords. So they all became dysfunctional at the same time? I doubt it!

Is there any fix for this? I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro and it started happening to me after 16.6.1.

I turned off “optimized battery charging” and “clean energy charging” because I thought those might be messing with it.

When I woke up after being on charge for 7 hours, my phone was still on 37%.

Put it on a different charger, went to take a shower, when I got out it was still on 37%.

If anyone has any info on how to fix it I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Update: it charged in my car, and will charge anywhere, but only after 6 am.
