Random app (Proton VPN) downloaded onto my phone last night

I saw this morning that proton VPN was randomly downloaded onto my phone, however, nobody i know has access to it. I am the only person on my apple ID and my automatic downloads are turned off in settings. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be/ help me?

iPhone 11, iOS 16

Hey,

  1. Check History: Verify if Proton VPN was actually downloaded from your Apple ID's purchase history.
  2. Change Passwords: Change your Apple ID and email passwords as a precaution.
  3. Scan for Malware: Run a malware scan using reputable security apps.
  4. Family Sharing: Check if you're part of a Family Sharing group that might have triggered the download.
  5. Contact Apple Support: If unsure, reach out to Apple Support for assistance.
  6. Review Account Activity: Check your Apple ID account for any unfamiliar devices or suspicious activity.
  7. Remove App: Uninstall the app if you didn't initiate the download.
  8. Update Software: Keep your iOS updated for security patches.
  9. Two-Factor Authentication: Enable two-factor authentication for added security.
  10. Stay Cautious: Be vigilant about unexpected device activity and review app installations.

Other possibility:

There was a report of a security flaw in iOS 16 that allowed some VPN apps to bypass the App Store review process and install themselves on users’ devices. Apple claimed to have fixed this issue, but some VPN providers disputed that claim: iPhone VPN app security debate continues, as Apple says it’s fixed, VPN companies say not [U]1
