Apple Watch capturing wrong data while exercising onboard a cruise.

I discovered something interesting while exercising onboard a recent cruise. Using the workout app and specifically the 'Outdoor Walking' option while taking laps around the perimeter of the ship, I kept getting split alerts from my Apple Watch every 2 minutes or so indicating that I had completed another mile. Apparently the Apple Watch's GPS was tracking the distance the ship was taking and thinking that I was some sort of superhero. Interestingly, when looking at the map of my walking, it shows I was going in a straight line (the direction of the ship) rather than the laps I was actually taking on board.

I included a couple of screen shots of how this registered.

What you're seeing is expected. The watch's GPS is tracking your movement, not just the distance you walked but the actual distance you moved over the time you had Workout running. If you don't want that to happen, use the Indoor Walk option.
