One of my iCloud devices is stuck displaying waiting to upload

One of my devices is stuck displaying waiting to upload. All of my devices are correctly signed in to my iCloud account. Signing the offending device out and back in did not solve this. This is new behavior about 4 days old. I’m sure no one needs me to describe what a serious problem this is.

I found the cause to be the offending device had disabled Wi-Fi. No notice of any kind is offered that this has occurred. I expect a bit more intelligence from Apple software. Clearly the problem is known to my MacBook Pro as it is displaying “waiting to upload nnn items” everywhere. It would be so easy to explain that to a user who is taking steps to upload files to iCloud. I mean, Duh.

My problem was indeed no Wi-Fi on the offending device. However, that device is perpetually on and connected and decided for unknown reason to disconnect. This is not behavior I expect to go unannounced on an Apple device. I have 7 of them in constant use. Babysitting each and every one to see if they have done something odd and stupid is just not part of my life plan.

I save a document, check to see it is saved, and I leave the office with my iPad, iPhone and head out to work, absolutely certain that once I get there I will be able to refer to my document. Troubleshooting every single conceivable purpose for a failure, every single day of my life is not in line with my choice of purchasing Apple’s expensive devices. Seeing a notice that a member of my own network is offline seems obvious. Visiting a checklist for every misbehavior is not at all obvious.

Are you teasing me?? OF COURSE I know when Wi-Fi is off by looking at the menu bar!

As a user, I consider it a failure of the machine, not myself, when such behaviors just pop up with no cause and more importantly no notice. As a support tech, I’m sure you realize we’re not all dealing with devices 10’ away from each other in our dens. Would it not be wise to advise of such a failure so that the account owner can see why the network has failed rather than get in the car? I verify the document has been saved in my iCloud Drive folder and go. Is this unknown behavior for Apple users?
